Est. 1-31-28 - TRYON, H C., WED., JULY 28, 1937 Polk Man Injured In Mine Explosion Pat Kirkland, 52, of Mill Spring, in Mission hospital, Asheville, buffering from a broken leg and abdominal injuries as the result of an explosion in the M)ine Hole Gap rock quarry about 7:00 o’clock Tuesday morning near Asheville. One man from Tennessee was killed and two others injured by the same explosion. The men were using dynamite in their work. Scouts at Rotary Scoutmaster W. A. Schilletter, who attended the Boy Scout Nation al Jamboree at Washington, and three of the Scouts, Jimmy Jack son, Bill Derby and Seth Vining, who also attended the Jamboree, will be on the program. Two other Tryon Scouts, William El- and Nelson Jackson, 111, Je now attending the World Jam ooree in Holland and will not re turn until about September 1. Home-Coming Sunday At Brethren Church The Mill Creek church of the Brethren will hold its Annual Home-Coming Celebration on Sun day. August Ist. Sunday school at 10 a. m. preaching at 11 a. m. These services will be followed by a basket lunch. The regular monthly meeting of the Polk county Singing Conven tion will convene at 2 p. m. Every, one is invited to attend. 4-H Club Group In Polk County Off to Raleigh Columbus, July 27.—The follow ing 4-H club boys and girls left for Raleigh Monday morning to attend the annual satte 4-H club short course at State College: M;arie Feagan, route 1, Land | rum, S. C.; Rose Shytle ' and Gladys Blackwood, route 1, Cam pobello, S. C.; Virginia Egerton, Kathleen Thompson, William Pow ell, Mill Spring; Hugh Sharpe, route 1, Landrum; Dean Arledge, Columbus. They were accompanied by Miss Agnes MjcLeod, home agent and C. H. King, assistant county agent. .The group will give a team demonstration on “Everyday In troductions,” and Hugh Sharpe and William Powell on “Feeding for Milk Production.” Scout Meeting * The Tryon Boy Scout Troop No. 1 will meet tonight at the school with Scoutmaster W. A. Schillet ter in charge. Reunion Sunday The Polk County Jackson family will hold their annual reunion on Sunday, August 1, at Harmon i Field. Fish Fry Tonight The Tryon Riding & Hunt club will give a fish fry tonight at 7 o’clock at Harmon Field with Sec l retary C. J. Lynch serving as host.
