Tryon Rotary Club Is Ten Years Old This week was the tenth anni versary of the Tryon Rotary club which received its charter on Sept. 12th, 1937, at a big banquet at Lake Lanier Tea house in the presence of 98 people many of them fellow Rotarians from the adjoining large cities. Over 40 came from the Asheville club. Dis trict Governor David Clark pre sented the charter which was re ceived by Dr. A. J. Jervey, the first president of the Tryon club. Julian B. Hester, the first secre- presided over today’s meet- Big which was in charge of F. P. the immediate past presi dent. Senator Bacon conducted a quiz program. Every member and guest present were asked ques tions. The answers were enlight ening as well as entertaining. The questions were takep from the Prof. Quiz book, The State Maga zine and impromptu remarks. Dr. Jervey had one that he offered a dollar for the correct answer. Per sonal questions about local Ro •'arians, were also asked which brought out such information as only two Rotarians are natives of Polk county. More than 12 states are represented with South Caro lina leading. About one third of the members are farmers. Half of them have been either in the army or navy. Three have been tele graph operators.
