Versus Biltmore The local Tryon-Saluda football team wil open the season on Fri day, September 24th, meeting the strong Bitmore high team at Har mon Field. This should be one of the best opening games ever held at Tryon. Most of the smaller teams have been dropped from the schedule. The game on Fri day will be the initial game for each team in the Blue Ridge Con ference. The team this year will be a well balanced bunch with possibly more power than last year. The back field suffered the loss of three play ers by graduation but several more men have been rapidly rounding into form. Robert Green, Bill Fox, Eugene Jones, Donald Eaton, Glenn Foster, Bruce Byers, Marion Green, and Francis Chapman will prob ably see action this year back of the line. The linesmen boosted by two big tackles, Mutt Heatherly, and Homer Shields, will be able to take care of itself. Arthur Parker, a guard, Hoke Jacobs, end, and Henry M,c- Geachy at center are among the old roen back. The other end position will have to be taken care of by Russel Holbert, Dutton Beat son, and Alexander Beatson. The right guard position will be up to J. L.- Shields, Emerson Edney and Fred Arledge. The remaining members of the squad, Bill Swann, Bob Thompson, Seth Vining, Har ol f | Taylor, Clarence Lankford and a few others will also be used. H C., WED,, SEPT. 22, 1937 “CURB” REPORTER From Jennings Ford: “Dear Mr. Vining: Enclosed please find two dollars ($2.00) for another year’s subscription of the Bulletin. Need less to say, I enjoy them very much and after I read them I pass them on to a boy on the ship that used tq live in Tryon. They are quite popular as souvenirs too. Many scrap-books have at least one in it. Sorry to be late, but we were at sea all last week and the planes didn’t take mail in.” ... . The Tribune Travelers’ Guidq of the Chicago Sunday Tri bune of September 19th, has the following interesting article about this section: “Dr. James Murray Washburn, formerly a widely known north side physician, re tired a number of years ago to Lake Lure, in the Western North Carolina mountain region. Last Wednesday, back in Chicago for a brief visit, he showed a hundred of his old friends, gathered in the Tower room of the Drake, a large selection of his own color of scenes and people in the Blue Ridge mountains, dem onstrating that in lakes and wood land. and in color and foliage, in all sections of the year, the region is a contender among the world’s beauty spots.
