J., for the winter. . . . . The New Bedford, Mass., Standard Times ireports that! Mrs. Coolidge is still owner of the Coolidge estate, “The Beaches”, but is arranging to build a smaller home for herself in Northampton. . . . . Tryon football players had a real treat Wednesday evening when Lefty Flynn, former Yale football star and all-round athlete, entertained them at his home, “Little Orchard.” .... William Gray, who has been in Tennessee for several weeks, said he had been reading the Bulletin regularly. He was working about 85 miles from Campaign, Tenn., where Waverly Hester gets the Bulletin. On week end visits he would read the Hes ters’ paper . . . About that bee gum in Dr. Green’s house, Edgar Rowe suggests putting a glass window over the bee gum so the public can watch the bees make honey. Barney Bishop suggests putting a pair of scales in it with a bell that would ring every time a pound ofhoney was produced • • • Polk county needs a number of Scoutmasters. Band of Spartanburg and Tryon was re —Continued on aacK rage TRYON, C., THURSDAY, SEPT. 30, 1937 Services Held Today For Cooper Gap Boy Mill Spring, N. C. Sept. 29.—J. B. Jackson, four-year-old son of Mr and Mrs. Belton Jackson, of the Cooper’s Gap section of Polk county, died at his home this morn ing after a long illness. He is survived by his parents, five brothers and five sisters. Funeral services were conducted at 11 o’clock Thursday morning at the Coopers Gap Baptist church by the Rev. Mr. Huntly. Interment was in the church cemetery. Tryon Hi Beta Club Officers Are Elected At present the members are Nellie Rushing, Bell Jackson, Ruth McFarland, Edward Manville, Hen ry McGeachy, Carolyn Slagle and Anne Scruggs. Those eligible for membership are Peggy Lincoln, Estelle Brown lee, Lula Burrell, Junior Pace, Ruby Alice Clark, Edna McKaig, Mary Palmer and Margaret Pace. The Tryon chapter of the Nation al Honorary Beta club has begun the year’s work with the following officers: President —Ruth McFarland. Vice-President Edward Man ville. Secretary—Peggy Lincoln. Treasurer —Estelle Brownlee. Those eligible for membership are members of the Junior and Senior classes of high scholastic standing who have been recom mended by the faculty.
