Justice Black
Speaks Tonight
Supreme Court Justice Hugo
Black will speak over the radio
for 20 minutes beginning
9:30. Red and Blue networks
-Jn the NBC chain, and the Mutual
and Columbia chains will broad
cast the talk from coast to. coast.
This will be the first statement
of the new justice since he was
charged with being a member of
the Ku Klux Klan and there have
been so many attacks on him in
newspapers thgt he will probably
have one of the largest audiences
ever listened to a speaker.
Child Burned -
Little Betsy Suttle, three-year
old granddaughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Gaze, was painfully
scalded this morning when a pan
of hot water was accidently knock
ed from the stove Into her lap.
She was rushed to the hospital
J*or treatment.
Girl Scout News
The Girl Scouts Troop commit
tee met Thursday evening at the
home of Mrs. W. Y. Wilkins with
M'iss Estelle Pace as hostess, for
the purpose of electing officers and
planning interesting work for the
Scouts.
The following Troop committee
were elected: Mrs. Maud Brand,
chairman; Mrs. D C. Brundage,
finance; Mrs. Seth M. Vining, pub
licity; Mrs. W. A. Schilletter, to
pi'ovide examiners; Miss Gertrude
Shoff, treasurer; Miss Edith Mis
fildine, secretary; and Miss Betty
Doubleday, lieutenant.

Air Mail Week
From Oct. 11-16
Postmaster W. H. Stearns an
nounces that the following com
mittee to co-operate with the gov
ernment in observing National Air
Mail Week from October 11 to 16:
C. H. Helms, chairman; R. H.
Brady, H. L. Shelnutt, G. I. Hen
derson. The Kiwanis and Rotary
clubs have endorsed the movement
to send as many air mail letters
during that week at which time
a special plane will pick up Tryon
mail at a nearby landing field. It
has been estimated that 200 air
mail letters will leave Tryxm that
week.
Local Football Team
In Waynesville Today
The Tryon-Saluda football team
left this morning for Waynesville
to play the mountaineers who lost
last week to Asheville while Tryon
and Biltmore played a scoreless tie
at Harmon Field. Waynesville has
a strong team. She defeated Try
on-Saluda last year 33-0.
