Gentry Law Offices Opened Law offices located a 11014 Ken nedy place have been opened by Judge Joseph J. Gentry, formerly |W>f Landrum, one of the oldest Members of the Spartanburg bar, according to an announcement yesterday. Judge Gentry is well known in Spartanburg county where he has practiced law at intervals for 40 years. He was probate judge of Spartanburg county for 16 years. He was also a magistrate for two years and once was county master. For sometime, he attended the theological seminary and is a Bap tist minister. During the World War, Judge Gentry was in Y. M, G. A. work as a chaplain. His father was sheriff of Spartanburg county for a number of years. For several years, Mir. Gentry has been one of the up-county peach growers. He owns the Bird Mountain Peach Orchards and ooerates other businesses at Bird v Mr. ann Mrs. Gentry are now living on North Converse street.— Spartanburg Herald. Chicago, Oct. 5. President Roosevelt, in a surprise statement of administration policy on inter national affairs, today demanded '‘positive endeavors to preserve peace” and warned that America cannot escape war if “internation al lawlessness” is permitted to spread unchecked. TRYON, N C., WED., OCTOBER 6, 1937 POLK COUNTY FARMBOARD At a meeting of the County Board of Commissioners Monday, the following men were selected by the Commissioners* to represent the different townships, composing an Agricultural Farm Board: Saluda Township: C. O. Coop er, K. J. Davis, Albert Salley. Green Creek: Melvin Swain, John Scoggins. W. H. Deck. Cooper’s Gap: W. H. Ledbetter, W. E. Etlliott, J. M. McGuinn. White Oak: H. E. Thompson, J. H. Gibbs, Frank Jackson. Tryon: W. S. Green. M. R. Mc- Cown, C. M. Howes. Columbus: John A. Arledge, H. P. Sharpe, L. B. Durham. The purpose of this board is to work with the County Agents in establishing an Extension Program for their respective townships. It is hoped that each member of the board will have in mind some very definite and vital work that he wishes to have done in his town ship, and at a meeting of this board, at a later date, plans will be worked out and discussed to accomplish what is desired. The chairman of these township committees will constitute the County Advisory Board, which will later come together and coordinate the work suggested bv the indi vidual committees.
