President K. A. Bowen will preside. Approximately fifty people will enjoy the occasion. Telepathy at Rotary E. Perry IVFanville has charge of the Tryon Rotary club program Friday at Oak Hall hotel at one o’clock. Dr. Chas. G. Sewall will be the chief speaker and will dis cuss Dr. Rhine’s experiments with mental telepathy at Duke Uni versity. Big Job Done Town Manager C. H. Helms States that the $18,000.00 WPA sewerage nroject for thd Town of . Tryon will bo completed this week | at a to*al coH to the town of abou 1 ' $6,000.00. The chief item of ex pense! was the installing of a sew- line from the school building to Pacolet River. By doing the work at this time with Federal Government co-operation the town has saved $12,000.00 and has greatly improved the sanitary con dition of the community. Married News has been received in Tryon of the marriae-e yesterday of the Rev. George Branscomb to Mrs. Cora Stacy, both of Melvin Hill and well known throughout the county and prominent for their work in community activities. TRYON, N C„ WED. OCTOBER 20, 19G7 4-H Booth at State Fair Won $40.00 Five counties in the state were asked to put on special educational exhibits in the 4-H department at the State Fair October 12—. The booths were to show some of the more important phases of the pro gram of 4-H club work, as it is con ducted in the various counties in North Carolina, in the training of farm youth in the Art of Living. Polk county was asked to put on an exhibit on Recreation, dem onstrating the different types of recreation in the home and com munity. The booth was divided into three divisions, outdoor, com munity, and home recreation, and was illustrated by miniature fig ures made of pipe cleaners. The heads were made by mixing equal parts of flour and salt and baked in a very slow oven. The faces were painted on with colors and the figures dressed in crepe paper costumes. The types of recreation demonstrated were basketball, tennis, hiking, horse shoe, plcnicing, camping, iswim ming several games as Virginia Reed, Come Let Us Be Joyful, May pole and Circle games. Home re creation included reading, music, radio, singing, hobbies of differ ent kinds and table games. The exhibit was set up in Ral eigh by Mrs. J. A. Feagan of Co lumbus, Dean A Hedge, 4-H club boy from Columbus, and the Home Agent.
