OCTOBER 27, 1937 “CURB” REPORTER Luster Wilson, Tryon Route One Mail Carrier, dug up a big sweet potato weighing 3% pounds and gave it to Clara Edwards at the Post Office. It looked so large and nice that she gave it to the Curb Reporter. He proudly brought it to the office and showed it to the staff. “As-I-See-It” Dedman said, “Wait until you hear this” and he read the fol lowing out of this peek’s Polk County News Farm column: “J. M. McGuinn of the Cooper’s Gap section, reports that he grew a sweet potato so large that his wife made a cobbler pie for a family J>f 14 and had a piece left weigh ng four-and-a-half pounds. Party Big Success The Parish House was the Fcene of a large card-games party Tuesdav night when the Tryon Parent-Teacher association held its annual social event to raise some of the funds necessary 1 to carry on the work of the organiza tion. The house and stage were beautifully under the di rection of Dr. and Mlrs. Louis Fuldner. Miss Pace and her Fifth Grade pupils made the attractive Hallowe’en designs which the walls. Approximately $86.00 was raised last night and this amount will be increased when pay ment is made by a few who re served tables and not attend. The attendance was unusually good. Mrs. K. A. Bowen, general chairman, expressed appreciation for the splendid co-operation of all merchants, business houses and dairies for their generosity in giv ing the prizes, and to Tryon Bank & Trust Co., J. B. Hester, Sr., md Tom Costa for cash donations. A m-ize was awarded the high scorer at each table. Prizes left over were auctioned to the highest* Delicious refreshments were served by the Social, and Ways and Means committees. New Radio Dept. Peeler, the jeweler, announces in today’s ulletin the addition of a radio repair department to repair all makes of radios and to sell radio tubes. Stewart Brad shaw is the radio mechanic.
