Est. 1-31-28 The Holden and Peattie Houses a Sale Confirmed “Dunwanderinl” the home of the late Robert and Elia W. Peattie and adjoining it “Ai-ound the Cor ner” home of the late Jean Stans buryl Holden have been sold. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Howell of New Jersey and Tryon have bought “Around the Corner” from Miss Effie Holden, and Mtiss Ethel Sharpe of Spartanburg has pur chased “Dupwanderin.” Btf.th homes on Godshaw Hill have been the scenes' of many brilliant occa-. sions presided over by charming hosts, visited by interesting and distinguished people. They hold an atmosphere of literature, art, travel many of the fine cul tural things that help make up the hospitable Tryon spirit—a spirit that is attracting chiarming people from all over the world. The sales were made through G. H. Holmes. Mr. and Mrs. Howell, who are now occupying “Around the Cor ner”, have been coming to Tryon for a number of years and have made many friends here. They bave one son, Dtavid, who is a student at Asheville school. Edsall at Rotary Dr. David L. Edsall will be the speaker at the Tryon Rotary club on Friday ( at Ip. m., at Oak Hall hotel. His subject will be “Outposts In Medicine.” Dr. Al len Jones Jervey, Sr., will be in charge of the program. TRYON, N. C., WED., NOVEMBER 10, 1937 The Tryon-Saluda squad will play the strong Greenville team on Thursday afternoon at Harmon Field. This is the first game on the home field for quite a long time and a good crowd is expected. The two teams are in excellent shape and will give a good exhibi tion of football. The game will be called at three-thirty with the following officials: Referee, Schil letter (Clemson) ; umpire, Eargle (Newberry) ; field judge, Jackson (Virginia); head linesman, Pinck ney (Sewanee); linesman, Wi get (P. C.) The Tryon-Saluda football team is composed of: McGeachy, Shields, 11., Parker, Edney, Jacobs, Swann, Beatson, D., Beatson, A., Green, R., Green, M., Heatherly, Staton, Holbert, Foster, Fox, Eaton, Vin ing, Taylor, Chapman, Byers. County Offices Close For Armistice Day All the county offices in the Court House will close on Thurs day in celebration of Armistice Day. The stores, hank and Post Office at Tryon will als 0 observe the day. HEADLINES Bucharest, Roumania, Nov. 9. The condition of Dowager Queen Marie, 62, mother of King Carol, was reported today as serious. She vomited blood during the night but seven attending physicians said she was not in immediate danger.
