Vol. 10. Est. 1-31-28 Mrs. Martha M’Guinn _) Mill Springs, N. C., Nov. 17— "Mrs. Martha McGuinn, 30, wife of J. McGuinn, died at a Ruth erford hospital today after an illness of four weeks. She was born and reared Polk county, county. Besides her husband, Mrs. Mc- Guinn is survived by three daugh ters, Pauline, Loree and Genell McGuinn; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Belton Jackson; brothers, Robert, Albert, Charles, Theron and Fos ter Jackson; sisters, Minnie Lou, Dorothy Fay and Pedabee Jackson. The funeral will be conducted today (Thursday) at 1 p. m., at the Cane Creek Baptist church with the Rev. S. M. Huntley offi ciating. Assembly Program Tryon High School The Tenth grade Assembly pro gram for Friday, November 19th, from 12 to' 12:30 o’clock will con sist of: “Thanksgiving Through the Ag es”, a patriotic pageant consisting of a prologue and five short scenes. This program is being given by *he class in United States history in recognition of Book Week, in commemoration of our deliverance in national crises and in antici pation of the approaching Thanks giving season. All members of the Junior class are taking part. Visi tors will be welcomed. TRYON, N. C„ THURSDAY, NOV. 18, 1937 John A. Arledge u Not To Run for Re-Election Again Formal notice was made today by Superior Court Clerk John A. Arledge that he would not be a candidate for re-election. The an nouncement will be a surprise to hundreds of friends and support ters throughout the county. Mr. Arledge has served the county as Clerk of Court for about ten years. His job as Court Clerk and Probate Judge is one of great re sponsibilty supervising the affairs of minors, estates, juvenile delin quents, the insane, administrators, bondsmen an-i other things requir ing sound judgment. He was well trained in this kind of work. His father, the late J. P. Arledge. was Clerk, also for many years. He has held the respect and con fidence of leaders in all parties. He has been a good politician. He has exercised unusual common sense. He has been fair and honest with rich and poor, Repub lican and Democrat. His volun tary retirement leaves the field open to many candidates who would not oppose him. No mention is made of the reason for his re tirement. For many years Mr. Arledge has been building up one of the best farms in the county.
