Est. 1-31-28 Amos Wright Landrum, Dec. 7.—Amos Wright of Landrum died this morning at 2:10 a. m., at the home of his "bn, W. F. Wright, with whom he -was making his home. Mr. Wright who had been in de clining health for a year, suffered a stroke of paralysis Monday morning. He was born in Cleveland coun ty, N. C., near Shelby, and lived in the Pleasant Grove church com munity most of his life. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove church before coming to Landrum about three and one-fialf years* ago. Since coming to Landrum he had united with the First Baptist church. Mr. Wright is survived by one son, W. F. Wright, owner and operator of the Landrum Casket company; one daughter, Mrs. Leila Melton, Boiling Springs, N. C.; ten grandchildren. -v Faneral services will be con ducted Wednesday at 2 p. m., at —Pleasant Grove Baptist church near Shelby, N. C., with the Rev. C. B. Prince, pastor of Landrum First Baptist church, assisted by Ihe Rev. M. W. Lever, pastor of the Landrum Miethodist church and the Rev. Mr. Washburn, pastor of the Pleasiant Gi’ove Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in the church by the side of his wife who died several years ago. Pall bearers will be W. 9. Heavner, Cleve Carpenter, Juline Carpenter, Therman Dempsey, W. M. Mc- Kinney and B. T. Thomson. After 8:30 a. m., Wednesday the body will be at the home of his son, W. F. C., WEDNESDAY, DEC 8, 1937 Basketball Season i Opens On Friday The Tryon high school opens up its basketball season on Friday night when Campobello high in. Vades the local court. The visi tors have been practicing for quite a long time since it is the only sport they have and will an accomplished team here. The Tryon boys, in excellent physical condition after a hard football season, will be ready with a fast, speedy quintet. Three of last sea son’s regulars, Blackwell, Green, and Foster will be missed. With Jones, football captain, the two Beatson brothers, and about a doz en others out, the team will be able to give plenty of action. The girls have a much improved sextet over last year’s team and can hold their own. The game will start at 7:30 with the girls opening. The remaining schedule for the year, includes some outstanding teams which the public will enjoy watching. The schedule follows: Dec. 10—Campobello at Tryon. Dec. 14—Sunny View at Tryon. Dec. 17—Etowah at Tryon. Jan. s—Cedar Springs, (pend ing.) Jan. 7—Hendersonville at Tryon. Jan. 14—Landrum at Tryon. Jan 18—Flat Rock at Flat Rock. Jan. 21—Columbus at Tryon.
