Est. 1-31-28 Kiwanis Plans for Christmas Events The Tryon Kiwanis club made plans today (Tuesday) noon at Hotel Tryon for its annual Christ ianas events. Names were drawn. Each Kiwanian will give another Kiwanian a toy present next week. After the fun over the presenta tion the toys will be turned over to the welfare committee for dis tribution to the less fortunate children. Christmas baskets will be distributed to a number of needy families to give added cheer on Christmas Eve. J. N. Jackson is chairman of this committee and is receiving contributions from the members and any others interested. ARIZONA, NEW MEXICO AT THE PARISH HOUSE Colored moving pictures of Ari zona and New Mexico taken in Sep tember by Scout Executive R. M. Sbhiele, will be shown on Satur day night in Tryon at the Parish uouse at 7:30 at the Polk County i3ov Scout Court of Honor. The public is invited. The meeting date was changed from Friday to Saturday on account of conflicts. DIVIDEND DECLARED The Tryon Federal Savings & Loan Association has nut into the mails thi* week $1,400 in 4 per cent dividends sent to investors in the local association who may enjoy the benefits of their sav ings at Christmas time. Approx imatelv forty shareholders are narticinating in the dividend which is free from all Federal taxes and does not have to be re ported on the income tax report. TRYON, N. C„ TUESDAY, DEC. 14, 1937 Abrams to Run for Court Clerk Office D. M. Abrams, prominent Green Creek farmer of Rutherford ton, route 2, stated to a reporter of the Bulletin today (Tuesday) that he would be a candidate next spring for the office of Clerk of Superior Court to succeed the pres ent incumbent, John A. Arledge, who announced recently that he would not be a candidate fop re election. Mr. Abrams is an ex service man, having spent a year in France. He is a native of Polk county, a deacon in the Sandy Plains Presbyterian church, and has taken an active interest in public affairs the past few yeaz-s. He was foreman of the grand jury two years ago, a candidate for county commissioner in the last election and has served on the county cotton program committee. He stated that he would make his formal announcement next month. Walter Stephenson To Entertain Tryon Young Men’s Club Walter Stephenson of Saluda, Polk county’s big league baseball player, will give a talk and show some pictures of some interesting scenes of the big leagues on Thurs dav night at 8 o’clock at the Tryon Young Men’s club room. The public is invited.
