Est. 1-31-28 Former Folk Woman Dies In Spartanburg Mrs. Laura Byers Griffin, 67, wife of J. A. Gi'iffin and a member a prominent local family, died at her home, 173 Crescent avenue, at 4 o’clock yesterday morning af ter an illness of three weeks. Mrs. Griffin was born and reared in Polk county, North Carolina, the daughter of J. J and Amanda Cantrell Byers. Since 1901 she had been a resident of Spartan burg. Funeral services will be con ducted at 3 o’clock Tuesday after noon at the El Bethel Methodist church, by the Rev. J. T. Frazier, the Rev. MJ. B Patrick, the Rev. Paul Kinnett, the Rev. E. Gibson Davis and the Rev. W. H. K. Pendleton. Interment will be in the Oak wood cemetery. Spartanburg Herald. “No Jiggering” R. B. Williams. Polk county Game Protector, calls attention of fishermen to the following law: Jigger and Stet Hook Fishing Prohibited—lt shall be unlawful to fish or take fish by jiggering and by set-hooks at any time of the year in Inland Waters of North Carolina. Jiggeidng is fishing from any of floating device with any type of lure or bait attached to a line under two feet in length fast ened on a rod or pole. Set-hook fishing is fishing with hook and line, attached to pole placed or set in stationary position along streams or ponds. TRYON, N C., MONDAY, JAN. 10, 1938 Gymnasium Closed As far as can be determined now the Tryon gymnasium will be closed for the rest of the season This will mean that the remaining basketball games scheduled here for the Tryon high school and the local town teams will have to bt played elsewhere, or cancelled. Tin building will have to have a nev heating plant and other specirica tions according to the State Firt Commission before it can be used. This will involve an expenditure of around two thousand dollars which sum is not .available. Up to this time as far as known the Tryon gym was considered on a par with any in this section, and was passed on by various Federa inspectors. W, A. SCHILLETTER.
