Tokyo, Jan. 17. —Premier Prince Fumimaro Konoye today was re ported to have told Japanese po litical leaders frankly that the undeclared war against China was becoming increasingly grave. Domei (Japanese new agency) sa'd Konoye informed leading members of both houses of parlia ment that failures to bring China to terms had “compelled the gov ernment to resort to another course of ser’ous nature.” What this might mean was not disclosed. It was learned authoritatively that yesterday’s governmental statement on the new imperial policy had not disclosed the fuh scope of the decisions. TRYON. The ap pointment was made by Secretary Ickes. Miss Beust is a sister of Carl Beust of Tryon . . . Chautemps is making another try at forming a French cabinet after Blum was rejected . . . Politics is getting warm in Buncombe county with two factions within the Democratic ranks . . . Charles Buttei'worth in a Russian Drama will be on the radio tonight at 9:30 in a Hollywood Madi Gras program . .
