Est. 1-31-28 Rector ‘Little Church Around the Corner’ * Speaks Here Monday The Rev. Randolph Ray, D. D.. Rector of the Church of the Trans figuration, New York, will .speak in the Parish House on Monday, February 7th, at 3:30 o'clock. Dr. Ray will tell about the church and ’ the actor, a subject on which he is well fitted to make a most tell ing address, as his church is the picturesque and famous ’“Little Church Around the Corner”, so frequented by actor,si and actresses for worship, for marriages and for burials. The affectionate nick name of the church came to it be cause an actor was seeking a church which would conduct the funeral of an actor friend. He had been refused at one place, but told that he could probably be by that “Little Church yAround the Corner”. The descrip tive loving title stuck and the church is how headquarters for the Episcopal Actors’ Guild, of which Dr. Ray is an official. As his experience in this field is so extensive the audience is promised an interesting afternoon by the description of the church’s work in the world of the theatre. All interested are invited to hear Dr. Ray at this meeting of the Woman’s Auxiliairy. and to meet him at the social hour afterward. Federal Housing Act passes the Senate. State of North Carolina, County of Polk. To His Honor, Judge A. Hall Johnston: We, the Grand Jury of the Spring Term of Superior Court for Polk County, respectfully submit the following report: The Jury has inspected the fol lowing county property, and beg to import as follows: We visited the County Home, and found it in good shape and well run; the inmptes comfortable and happy. They report that they are being, well cared for. The jail was inspected and found to be ini satisfactory condition, ex cept that the drain pipe from the shower baths wias found to be in bad condition, and we recommend the installation of a larger drain pipe. This recommendation was made by the two preceding Grand Juries, but was japparently not carried out. We wish to insist that this recommnedation be put into effect. We also recommend that the roof, screens, and locks be repaired, the outside woodwork painted. The furnace has a leak in it which should be looked after at once and the barn at the jail is in need of general repair. We have inspected the Prison Camp and find that it is in very good condition. The prisoners re port that they are being well taken care of. We have inspected the Court Continued on back page
