Est. 1-31-28 15 Associations Have Increased -Their Assets Q Washington, D. C., Feb. 18.— The 15 Federal Savings & Loan Associations in North Carolina have made a fast start for 1938 in home mortgage finacing,. and in providing thrift facilities for their communities, Preston Delano, Gov ernor of the Federal Home Loan Bank System, said today. Mr. Delano reported that the total of direct-reduction mortgage loans for construction, purchase, reconditioning and refinancing of North Carolina homes made by these associations, was $7,425,900 at the beginning of February, an increase of $2,728,160 over the total a year ago. All of the asso ciations renorted a very active in January. Savings invested in these insured institutions had risen to $3,709,900 in the early part of February, an increase of $1,251,500 over the figure of February 15, 1937. Such savings are protected up to $5,000 on each account bv the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Cor poration. Assets of the associations amounted to $8,518,600 on February 1, the increase being $2,570,800 in 12 months. Federal associations in North Carolina are located in Asheville, Burlington, Durham. Fayetteville, Gastonia, Greenville, Henderson ville, Mooresville, Raleigh, Rocky Mount, Tryon and Winston-Salem. TRYON, N. C., FRIDAY, Mrs. Burrell Mrs. Caroline Burrell, 88, widow of the late Tom, Burrell, died on Thursday at noon. Funeral ser vices will be held this, afternoon at 2:30 at the home. Burial in Tryon cemetery. Rev. J. B. Middle ton officiating. The deceased is | survived by the following children: j W. Aj., and Mark of Tryon; Joe, of | Greenville, S. C.; Mrs. Louise Gos | nell and Mt-s. Sara Loftis of In | man, 9. C., and Mrs. Martha Waters of Tryon. Mrs. David Houser Mrs. David Houser, a life-time resident of this county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clayton Roddy, on Tuesday after noon. She was a daughter of the late Jim Giles, a pioneer resident of this county. She is survived by this daughter and one son, James Houser; three grandchil dren and a number of sisters and brothers, most of whom reside in this county. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Wednesday at the Green Creek church, of which place Mrs. Houser was a long and x faithful member. r t Basketball Tonight The Tryon high teams will play Sunny View tonight in a double header.
