Feb. 21, Spartanburg at the office of the «/udge of Probate. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Broadus Ford of Tryon. The young couple will make their home here. Rotary Friday Senator F. P. Bacon will be in charge of the Tryon Rotary club program on Friday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall hotel. J.X 1 * Negro Spirituals A feature of the “Celestial City” program at the Parish House to night will be the singing of Negro Spirituals by the choir of St. Luke’s Colored Methodist church. The religious drama will be pre sented under the auspices of the Tryon P.-T. A. 'A -H; feature Writer Here Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Garden of Birmingham, Ala., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Vanderhoef, Jr. Mr. Garden, who was formerly editor of the Bangkok Daily Mail in Siam, is now staff writer for the United Features Syndicate of New York. • fr B. B. Tournament Polk County Basketball Tourna ment February 26th 28th; March Ist and 2nd. At Columbus on February 26th; at Saluda on Mon day, February 28th; at Columbus on March Ist; finals at Green’s Creek on March 2nd. Basketball Tonight Tonight at 7:30, Coach Nanney brings his Green Creek champions to Tryon. The visitors have run up a string of 16 consecutive vic tories and Tryon is out to beat them. The locals have upsets the visiting boys for the past two years when they were heading for an un defeated season. Green Creek girls have on their team one of the highest scorers ever in this section. Towering six feet, tw 0 inches tall, she is able to drop the ball in the basket at will with the guards being unable to reach that high. Yesterday Tryon’s midgets scored their sec ond victory over Saluda by the score of 38-25. Taylor paced the locals by ringing up 18 points. He was ably assisted by the stellar "day of McFarland and Vining each having seven points to their redit. The following boys played for Tryon: McFarland, Jackson, Taylor Ford, Vining, Durham and Leon Green. Saluda players were Seay, R., McQuilban, Burford, Pace, Cooper, McCallister, Rhodes and Laughter. Pace for Saluda was high man with 16 points. .tj. I t Free Clinics Three free clinics are conducted m Polk county by Dr. John Z. Preston, physician, and Miss Irene Clark, nurse for the American Women’s Hospitals. One is held at Community House in Coooer’s Gap; one at the Katherine Beat son Health House, Mill Spring; and one at St. Luke’s hospital. These are open to persons unable to pay a doctor.
