Est. 1-31-28 Woodmen Meet Nearly seventy people attended oyster supper of the Woodmen V'vthe World at Sunnydale Wednes day evening. The Landrum lodge was the host and a number of guest 3 were invited. Rev. W. M. Lever was the principal speaker and spoke on the value of fellow ship and co-operation. Claude 0. Smith was the toastmaster. Help Wanted Justice of the Peace Giles W. Pearson states that he has a man under suspended sentence who has neglected a family consisting of a wife and five children who need juet a little money or food to take of them the rest of the winter. Anyone interested in investigating this family to help may get in touch with Judge Pearson at Mel rose or by mail through Saluda. basketball Results Tryon high school teams lost both games to the strong Green Creek quintets on Thursday evening at Tryon gymnasium. The girls score was 50-15 and the boys 23-11. Saluda split a double-header with Brevard. Saluda girls won 36-29 and Brevard boys won 27-25. Games at Brevard. ft Noted Writer Coming Mrs. Marion Sims, authoress of Charlotte, N. C., will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Lanier club on Thursday, March 3. Her subject is “Friends of Litera ture in the South.” TRYON, N C., FRIDAY, “CURB” REPORTER Solicitor Clarence Ridings of Forest City, a native of Polk, is a candidate for re-election Polk politics have slowed up a bit. Another man is being slated for Clerk of Court . . . Miss Beatrice Cobb, editor, Morganton News- Herald announces that she will be a candidate for the state senate. Now, there’s a woman with charm, executive ability, diplomacy and public spirit. Once at a press meeting Noah Hollowell made the statement that I had a chain of daily bulletins in mind. Miss Cobb who has an excellent thrice-a-week rsaper, looked at me with a smile and said, “Don’t you come to my town.” That attitude impressed me. She has a good community, large enough to support a nice, little daily bulletin, but she was ready to meet possible competition with friendliness and courtesy. She i-. the women’s leader of the State Democratic party, secretary of the State Press association and so far as we know the only woman who is a member of Kiwanis.
