Arthur Lincoln - Chairman Polk County Council of Social Agencies Letters have been sent out today by a committee of the Polk County Council of Social Agencies to friends of the Helping Hand and the American Women’s Hospitals asking financial support of these two welfare agencies. Brief items have been printed in the Bulletin lately as to the nature of some of the work of these organi zations. The American Women’s Hospitals, with Dr. John Z. Pres ton, physician, and Miss Irene Clark, nurse, maintains in three sections of the county three free clin'cs for maternity cases, includ ing pre-natal and post-natal care for mothers unable to pay for the attentions of a doctor and a nurse. Incidentally it is also concerned with other health conditions. The Helping Hand is a general welfare / over thirty years old. It all kinds of distress in indigent families and attempts to res'ore independence and self support t 0 individuals and fami lies who have become dependent. Both of these organizations are doing excellent constructive work which is indispensable. Demands upon them increase day by day : nd it is hoped that the response io the appeal for financial support /ill be extra generous. Contribu tions should be sent to Mrs. John Washburn. Saluda, March I. News has been received here from Charles ton, S. C., of the death of William Hamlin Fairchild, father of Mrs. Q. C. Skmner of Saluda. Mr. Fair child was the oldest Mason in South Carolina, being in his 87th year. Interment will be in Mag nolia cemetery, Charleston. Republicans Meet Tryon Precinct Republicans will meet on Friday evening at 7:30 at the Tryon Town Hall on Miaple street for the purpose of electing delegates to the County Convention which meets in Columbus on March 11. Former Postmaster S. B.
