Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., THURS.. MARCH, 10, 1938 Charles A. Aiken, Noted Artist, To Exhibit Here Charles A. Aiken, prominent New yYork artist, will hold an exhibi tion of paintings at Mrs. B. King Couper’s Rock House Art Gallery during March, beginning on Wed nesday the 16th. The public is invited. Mr. Aiken is the treas urer and one of the founders of the internationally famous Fifteen Gallery of New York. He is a member of the Salmagundi club, New Haven Paint and Clay club, the New York Watercolor club, and the Allied Artists of America. His work is in the permanent col lections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Worcester Art Museum, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts; at San Die go, Washington, Chicago, New Haven and Macon. He is repre sented by a portrait in the School of Fine Arts, Yale University. He received his artistic training in the of the Museum of Fine Boston and spent a year in and France. One of the most outstanding ex amples of his mural paintings be ing the decorations for the stage and lobby of Steinert Hall, Boston, installed in 1913-15. i | War clouds over Europe are de cried by Woodring. Play ers may arrange their own four somes (two balls); nine hole com petition. Prizes for first and sec ond low gross. The playing starts Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. -- y v Mrs. Sidney Lanier To Speak Monday At the next Lanier club tea, on Wednesday, March 16th, Mrs. Sidney Lanier, daughter-in-law of the poet, will give an informal talk comprising impressions of old Try on and of the great poet. Tea will be served at 4 o’clock and the talk will follow at 4:45.
