Est. 1-31-28 Polk County Scouts Are Advanced □ The Polk County Boy Skxmt Court of Honor was held at the Parish House on Monday evening. Those serving on the court Were Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, Scout Executive R. M. Schiele, Rev. John A. Pinckney, Nelson Jackson, Jr., E. Perry Manville, W. A. Schilletter, Rev. D. M. McGeachy, Rev. B. G. Henry. MTs. Schiele served as secretary. The court opened with prayer by Mr. Henry, followed with the repeating of the Scout Oath. Boys were advanced in Scouting as follows: Tenderfoot Rank: Chas. Ford, Paul Butler, troop No. 1, Tryon. Second Class Rank: Marvin Ed wards, Jr., Howard Reid, troop No. 1, Tryon. First Class Rank: Holland Brady, Spurgeon Arledge, troop 1, Tryon. Merit Badges: 0\ Animal Industry: Cole Brund age, Lock McGeachy, Harold Taylor, troop 1, Tryon. Civics: Harold Taylor, Lock Mc- Geachy, troop 1, Tryon. Cooking: Seth Vining, Lock Mc- Geachy, troop 1, Tryon. First Aid to Animals: Lock Mc- Geachy troop 1, Tryon. Garden Club Meets On Wednesday The Tryon Garden club will meet on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 with Mrs. C. A. Ldghtner at Seven Mountains. A feature of the meeting will be a prepared paper by Mrs. Ralph C. Erskine on Principles of Flower Composition. T t “ Miss Matthews Coming On March 28th Miss Eliazbeth Matthews of Cincinnati, one of the outstand ing speakers of the Episcopal church will speak in Tryon at the Parish House on Monday, March '2Bth, at 4 p. m . Miss Matthews was the first woman elected to the 'National Council of the Episcopal church and is a most informed as well as a magnetic speaker. •Tryonites are fortunate in having 'the opportunity to hear her. The change in date as previously an nounced wa s made in order not to conflict with the steeple-chase. Wild! Beautiful! Now is a good time to see Pear son’s Falls and glen before the foliage gets too dense, according to members of the Garden club who have just returned from there. Many things are out in bloom. Blood root, hepaticas and giant ! chick weed are blooming in pro fusion. Trout lilies, yellow violets nd other things are coming out. Pearson’s Falls contains a greater variety of wild flowers than any other place in America. It is owned by the Tryon Garden club. MARCH 22, 1938
