Est. 1-31-28 Responding Nicely! Probably no where else in the world will you find a small com ununity with better public spirit- citizens and friends who come to the rescue to help worthy causes. Already 72 donations of checks and cash have been re ceived by Treasurer B. L. Ballen ger for St. Luke’s hospital. Some of these donations are just a few dollars in cash from working peo ple who in their heart know the need of a hospital for Tryon, some are $lO donations from people with small incomes. There are other s of $25, SSO, SIOO and in between, all giving according to their ability, but each giving with the same spirit for the community NEEDS A HOSPITAL. They know that in giving to St. Luke’s hospital they are helping suffering human ity for miles out in the county and mountain districts. The spirit of the poorer worker inspires the wealthier donor to give more. The Kpord naturally helps those who help ILYhemselves and no man makes too little to give something. The dol lar a day man could Send one dol lar. It will take 60 people giving SIOO each to raise the money need ed. It will take 600 people giving $lO each. So you can see the task <°head of the Hospital Association. You can help them a lot by sending in your check or pledge card by Saturday. v y Paper Chase The Tryon Riding & Hunt club announces a paper chase starting Su iday afternoon at 3:30 from Tower Hill. The hare can not be allowed a second over 30 minutes grace, so all riders will have to be on time. TRYON, N C., FRIDAY. Remember ! ! T T Large Crowd Attends Federation Meeting A crowd that filled the .court room and overflowed into the hall enjoyed the speaking and moving pictures at the county-wide Farm ers Federation meeting at Colum bus Thursday evening. Former Senator Browning, now a member of the Federation staff, spoke on the growth of the Federation, and clans for the coming years, after which President James G. K. Mc- Clure spoke briefly and acted as commentator on the moving pic tures shown on the Federation’s activities in the different counties. String music by the Federation string band was enjoyed as were ?. delightful bit of singing and en ertainment by Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Flynn, of Tryon. Plans were announced for the r.rnual County Federation Picnic Lhis summer, at which moving pictures will be made to be re nown here at the next meeting : n the fall. MARCH 25, 1938
