other cities enroute. The Yale
singers enjoy a unique refutation
in college circles; under Mr. Bar
thomomew’s guidance they have be
come recognized as one of the out
standing American men’s choruses.
They have represented this country
at European singing conventions
twice in the last twelve years, and
at the present time plans are be
ing made for a third trip abroad
in the summer of 1939.
Featured on the Yiale men’s
Asheville program are Van Griggs,
'29, tenor soloist, and an o:tet
which has promised renditions of
two well-known Carolina mountain
ballads. Cindy and Sourwood Moun
tain, especially for the occasion.
Among other numbers of note are
De Animals a-Comin’, a negro
spiritual arranged by Mr. Bartho
lomew. Our Boat Sits Lightly on
the Waves, a ballad of the Eli
crew made doubly vivid by the
well-drilled oarsmanship of eight
stalwarts and a singing coxswain,
and a spirited rendition of Taran
tella that has been a specialty this
year. The Battle of the Books,
describing a humorous incident in
the early days of the college is
also a new feature; words and
music are by former members of
the club.
