Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N, C., TUESDAY, APRIL 12, 1938 Stores To Close For Big Show Tryon merchants will close their places of business on Wednesday .border that all employees may have an opportunity to attend the 13th annual Horse and Hound Show at Harmon Field. Tryon public school children will have a holiday not only for that day but for the rest of the week. Tryon Boy Scouts under the direction of Scoutmaster W. A. Schilletter act as guides during the day at Har mon Field. The Hound Show be gins at 9 a. m., with Manager C. W. Ballenger in charge. The Horse show will start at 10:30 with Sec retary C. J. Lynch in charge. The intermission will be at noon from 1 to 2 p. m. at which time a box lunch will be sold to the guests so that none will have to leave the grounds. An added feature during the intermission will be the ex hibition of the winning hounds in rthe Horse Showing followed by a Jiorn blowing contest. * Roger Stone of Lexington, Ky., will be the Hound Show judge; for the horsemanship judge Mrs. James A. Hewett of Long Island, N. Y.; for saddle horses Col. A. S. Thompson of Paducah, Ky.; for hunter and jumper horses Lt.- Col. Edwin M. Hardy of Lexington, Ky. Eighty horses had been entered for the show by noon today and night all entries will have been filled for what promises to be the biggest show in the history of the club. A reception for exhibitors and guests will be held this afternoon at the Tryon Country club, a sub- Continued on Page Three... _ At Scout Convention Vice-president Nelson Jackson, Jr. of* the Piedmont Boy Scout Council apd Senator F. P. Bacon, chair man of the Cubbing program in Polk County are attending a four states regional Scouter convention today in Spartanburg at the Franklin hotel. Mr. Jackson will conduct one of the important group discussions on dristrict or ganization. Senator Bacon will take in the Cubbing program head ed by Frank Wood of Atlanta, Ga. Senator Bacon is eager to estab lish the program in Polk County in order to bring the younger boys in touch with the ideal of Scouting and better citizenship. Scout of ficials from Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas will attend the con vention. Lynch Buys Home C. J. Lynch has purchased the old Daniel home formerly occupied by Owen S. Bird on Melrose Ave. The house is located across the street in front of Mr. Lyuch’s present home. The house will be remodeled right away. Reception Today The Horse and Hound Show re ception at the Country club this afternoon will be in charge of several hostesses as follows: Mrs. John Washburn from 4 to 5 o’clock, Mrs. Samuel Bingham from 5 to 6 o’clock and Mrs. Dan iel Boone from 6 o’clock on.
