R. Griffin « Thomas R. Griffin, 63, prominent farmer and blacksmith of Mill Spring, route 1 died this morning following an illness of about six weeks. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Big Level church. The deceased is survived by his widow, four sons: John, Charles, Clarence, Al bert and one daughter. Miss Ola Griffin; also two brothers, George Griffin of Sylva and John Griffin of Green Creek this county. Witten, of Moore.-.vi.le, who was favorably mentioned prior ! to the Republican state convention I for nomination as the G. O. P. j senatorial candidate, and for many years a member of the National Republican Sneakers’ committee will deliver the keynote address at the Polk County Republican Convention here Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. This convention was called by Chairman Newman for the purpose of selecting candidates for all ! county offices and to name the ' county party officials for the en suing two years. It is expected that John Henry Gibbs, retired rural carrier of Miill Spring, will j be the candidate for county eom ! missioner. Former Sheriff E. ! Newman will probably receive the j nomination for sheriff without contest. Other places on the tick et will possibly be contested. Fire Destroys School Building In Rutherford The Central high school build ing of Rutherfordton was destroy ed by fire this morning. The alarm was given around 8 o’clock before school opened. The cause was not learned here. The school building was one of the nicest in this part of the state. Miss Eliza beth Kerhulas of Tryon is a teach er of English in this high school and she has 165 pupils in four classes.
