Show At Tryon

W Tryon, April 30. —The fifth an
nual flower show to be sponsored
by the Tryon Garden club was
held yesterday at the Parish
House, withfilarge numbers of
visitors attending throughout the
day.
Exhibits of many beautiful flow
ers and unusual plants were ar
tistically arranged on tables in the
main room and on the stage.
Judges induced M,rs. Garibaldi
and Mrs. Sheldon of Charlotte,
Mrs. Carr and Mrs. Dodge of
Biltmore Forest and Mrs. Henry
Crigler and Mrs. Ellis, of Green
ville, S. C.
The judges used this year a
new system of making awards, in
whicljpjudging was done strictly on
the point basis. Therefore, in
several classes similar ribbons
jfcwere to more than one
■xhibit, since many were equally
Reserving. Blue, red and yellow
ribbons were awarded for " first,
second, and third places, and in
the two classes for school chil
dren special prizes were given.
A prize for the most outstand
ing exhibit in the show was given
by the judges to Mrs. Ralph
Erskine for her Oriental poppies,.
The prize for the exhibit judged
most popular by all present was
received by Mb. Markness Smith
for a beautifully lighted, and' ar
tistically arranged screen. Bout
onnieres, miniature bouquets, and
corsages were sold by Miss Laura

Merrill Fans 17 as Red
Oak Defeats Tryon
.The Red Oak Industrial league
club scored a 9 to 8 victory over
! Tryon Saturday on the Red Oak
field.
Merrill, on the mount for the
winners, fanned 17 Try#n batters
during the game and did not allow
a run until the ninth when the
visitors pushed over their eight
markers and threatened to take
the lead.
