Est. 1-31-28 Mrs. B. A. Slate Mrs. B. A. Slate, of Charlotte, passed away this morning about 4 o’clock at the home of her Cighter, Mrs. L. A. Avant on lrose avenue. Funeral services 1 be held Thursday morning at 10 o’clock at the Avant residence with Rev. B. G. Henry, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiat ing. The pallbearers will be C. M. Howes. R. S. Jackson, M. B. Caldwell, B. L. Ballenger, George E. Bell, R. H. Brady. Interment will be in Charlotte. Her pas tor, Dr. Luther Little of the First Baptist church will officiate. Mrs. Slate had been a beloved visitor to Tryon for over 25 years. She was 80 years old and a native of Halifax county. Virginia. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. L. A. Avant of Tryon, one brother, Capt. J. H. Smith of Charlotte, granddaughters. Misses Elizabeth and Lois Avant, of Tryon, and one niece, Mrs. W. R. Warriner, of Crewe, Va. Again Tonight A Man of Destiny and A Wed ding will be presented again to night by the Garden club at the Parish House. The appreciative audience last night enjoyed im mensely the brilliant lines of George Bernard Shaw in “A Man of Destiny” and John Kirkpat rick’s comedy, “A Wedding.” The curtain rises at 8 p. m. TRYON, N C., WEDNESDAY, MAY 4, 1938 To Meet Saturday Precinct Democrats County Chairman W. S. Green has given notice that all Demo crats of the various townships will meet on Saturday, May 7th, at 3 o’clock at their respective voting places for the purpose of electing officers and delegates to the county convention to be held in Columbus one week later, on May 14th, at 2 o’clock. On Saturday of this week the Democratic voters will elect five precinct committeemen, one of whom must be a woman who will also be either chairman or vice chairman. The committee will elect its chairman. 'The numbejr otf delegates to the county convention will be elected according to the Democratic vote in the precinct. Columbus is entitled to 20 dele gates; Cooper’s Gap, 3; Mill Spring 11; Shields, 17; Saluda 13; Tryon 36. The present County Democratic Executive Committee is as follows: Chairman, W. S.
