Est. 1-31-28 Rev. John A. Pinckney Resigns to Accept Charleston Call Rev. John A. Pinckney, rector of the Church of the Holy Cross for th© past year and a half has resigned to accept a call to St. Paul’s Episcopal church in Charleston, S. C. The change will be made on September Ist. St. Paul’s was consecrated in 1816 a few years after it was built and has a much larger congregation than Holy Cross. Although re gretting to give him up Tryon friends are glad of his call to a larger field. Mr. Pinckney came to Tryon in November 1936 and has taken part in Boy S-mit work and public school athletics. For the past two years he has been the director of the Episcopal young People’s Conference at Kanuga Lake, and will direct their activities again this summer. Mrs. Johnston News has been received in Try on of the death of Mrs. Mjary Elizabeth Johnston, nee Carsons widow of the late Col R. M. Johnston, owner and publisher of the Houston Post, Houston, Texas. She passed away this morning in Detroit. Funeral arrangements not definite. Interment will be in Houston. Mrs. Johnston spent the winter in Tryon for seven years at the home of her daughter Mrs. Albert Wilkinson Flint, on Laurel avenue. Baseball Saturday At Harmon Field. Hazelwood vs. Tryon. First home game. TRYON. N C., FRIDAY, MAY 6, 1938 Cowans Trade John Cowan, local grocer, has bought out his brother A. J. Cowan’s interest in the Tryon Case and will operate this well known restaurant under the man agement of Carroll Leonard who recently operated the Rutherford Country club, and Garland Revis of Brevard. Mr. Cowan who started on a “shoe string” a few years ago now operates one of the largest grocery and feed businesses in the county. Mr. A. J. Cowan who returned to Tryon from Shelby several years ago to operate Tryon Case, will continue in busi ness here ait his sandwich shop On Maple street near Thompson’s Barber shop. Mr. John Cowan wish es to state that the same good food with courteous service will be at Tryon Case, and improvements are planned that Will better aid the case’s personnel in serving the public. Burial Association Is Organized F. K. McFarland, Tryon Funer al Director has formed the Mc- Farland Mutual Burial Association and has a page advertisement in this issue of the Bulletin inviting the citizens of the county to join. The Burial Association admits members for a small sum of money which assures SIOO.OO bene fit for burial expenses. The as sociation is operated under the supervision of the State Insurance /Commission and is designed to en able people of small income to meet the emergency of burial ex penses.
