Monday The Home Economics depart ment of the Tryon high school has completed a unit of work and the Domestic Science class will put on a style show immediately follow ing the business session of the P.-T. A. on Monday afternoon at 8:30. The public is cordially in vited to attend. Democrat Convention Meets Saturday Polk County Democratic Conven tion will meet on Saturday at 2 m., at the Court House in Co lumbus for the purpose of electing delegates to the State Convention and transacting other business itters pertaining to the party. Senator F. P. Bacon was chair man of the last convention and F. M. Burgess. of Columbus was secretary. Dr. W. S. Green is r hairman of the County Democratic i. Executive Committee. Concert Tonight Tryon-Saluda-Inman band will give a concert tonight at 8 o’clock at the school auditorium. A small admission is charged in order to raise funds for equipment and uniforms. President Roosevelt has appoint ed John W. Hanes of North Caro lina as assistant secretary of the treasury. Jesse H. Jones, RFC chief is suggested for president in 1940. TRYON, N C., FRIDAY, MAY 13, 1938 George Aid Prominent Tryon artist died Thursday night about 7:30 at St. Luke’s hospital following a long illness. Private funeral services this afternoon at Anderson, SL C. He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Mary Orr of An derson, S. C., and one son, George Charles, student at University of North Carolina, also two brothers, H. H. and S. A. Aid of St. Louis, Mo., who visited him several weeks ago. Mr. Aid made Tryon his home for many years and formerly owned a vineyard on the moun tain. He had painted many por traits of visitors and local people but was best noted for his work abroad. “Who’s Who of Ameri ca” had the following account of his achievements: * “Aid, George Charles, artist; b. Quincy, 111., Aug 26, 1872; s. Francis and Louise (Huber) A.; student Sch. Fine Arts, Washing ton U., St. Louis, 1890-93, Acade mic Julian, Paris, France, 1899- 1901; m. Mary Orr, of Anderson, S. C., 1910; one son, George Charles. Painting exhibited at Paris Salon, 1906, purchased by Swedish government; etching pur chased by Musee National du Lux embourg, (Paris), Royal Gallery of Dresden, N. Y. Pub. Library, Awarded hon. mention in Paris Salon; silver medal La. Purchase Exposition; bronze medal San Francisco World’s Fair. Miem. St Louis Artists Guild, Chicago Socie ty of Etchers, Am. Art. Ass’n of Paris. Home, Tryon, N. C."
