TRYON, N, C., THURSDAY, MAY 19, 1938 Firemen Entertained Members of the Tryon Fire De partmet enjoyed a steak supper Wednesday evening at the Firem en’s Hall where Honorary Fire man C. J. Lynch, representing the Tryon Riding & Hunt club acted as host. Besides the good supper the members enjoyed an hour of fellowship with speeches and jokes. An interesting feature of the meeting was the reading of the minutes of a Firemen’s meeting in 1920 and a roll call of that meeting. W. W. Creasman was the secretary. McFarland Applies For Charter Today Application was made today for a charter for the McFarland Mutual Burial Association, accord ing to a statement by R. F. Mc- Farland, local funeral director, and president of the association. The response to the announcement that applications were being tak en for membership in this asso ciation, was, according to Mr. Mc- Farland, beyond expectations and many new applications are being received every day. 4-H COUNTY HEALTH WINNERS Frances Pace, of Saluda, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Pace, and. Clarence Scoggins of Colum bus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Scoggins, were chosen as Polk County’s 4-H Health Champions last Thursday. Dr. John Pres ton, County Health Physician, and Miss Irene Clarke, County Health Nurse, gave the examination.
