Est. 1-31-28 Election Results The results of the Polk County Democratic Primary iield on S'at. urday, Juno 4th, are listed below. The precinct votes will be pub lished in The Polk County News. The County Election Board will meet on Tuesday to officially de clare the nominees. Figures avail, able so far are unofficial. All victories were devisive except for Legislature. Baty Hall of Saluda heads she ticket with 1,013; Carroll 'Rogers is second with 870; James E. Johnson is third with 342; and / George E. Bell fourth with 251. Mr. Rogers being out of town it is not known whether he will call \for a run-off primary. The vote \in Tryon went 375 for Rogers, i 206 for Hall, 169 for Bell and 85 < for Johnson. The county total is as follows: For U. S. Senate:Reynolds 2,173, Hancock 438. Congi-ess, 11th District: Whit, mire 1,142, Weaver 1,416. Representative: Carroll P. Rog ers 870, George E. Bell 251, Baty Hall 1,013, J. E. Johnson 342. Sheriff: W. D. Hines 1,582, W. Y. Wilkins 1,019. County Commissioner: E. G. Thompson 1,448, T. P. Clark 833. Clerk of Court: Robert S. Mc- Farland 1,930, D. M. Abrams 843. In the Tryon Township Con stable race W. H. Durham was high man with Buster Faster and Walton Glover both getting over 200 votes each, but Mr. Durham states that Mr. Foster being sec. cnd high man has declined for a i un-off • race. TRYON, N C M MONDAY, JUNE 6, 1938 Mrs. P. P. Pressley Mrs. P. P. Pressley, 52, of Hen dersonville died last night in Pat ton Memorial hospital at Hender sonville after suffering a stroke at about 9 o’clock Sunday morning. Mrs. Pressley had been a resident of Hendersonville for a number of Vears, having lived in Tryon before moving there. She is survived by her husband, P. P. Pressley, of Hendersonville; three sons, Sidney and James Pressley of Hender sonville and Philetus Pressley of Tryon; two daughters, Mrs. Claude Drake and Miss Bertha Pressley, both of Hendersonville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 o’clock at Shepherd’s Funeral Home in Hendersonville with burial following in Hender sonville Cemetery. Cooking School Here Thursday A cooking school for the colored women of this section will be held on Thursday evening at the Duke Power Co., sales room under the direction of Mrs. Frank Moore, home economist of Greenville, S. C. Instruction will be given in the preparation of meals and in the use and care of electric ranges. This will be the first of a series of schools held every Thursday eve. ning. Prizes will be awarded as in the oast. The room will ac. commodate only about 60 people and those desiring to get the most ■benefit from the course are urged to attend early.
