Tryon Girl Graduates In New York Miss Josephine Huston Kelly, daughter of Mir. J. E. Kelly of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Mirs. Whit more Kelly of Tryon, will be graduated on Wednesday, June 8, fromfrom The New York Hospital School of Nursing, where she has bee a student for three years. Miss Kelly expects to enter the field of child welfare nursing. She has, served as vice-president of the student organization, junior prom chairman, secretary of her class, and secretary of the house committee. Prior to entering the School of Nursing, MJiss *Kelly attended Wes tern College at Oxford, Ohio, for two years, and graduated from Antioch Academy, Yellow Springs, Ohio, and from Fassifern School for Girls, Hendersonville. She is one of a graduating, class of twenty-four. The New York Hospital Nursing School has its origin in a course of training for nurses given from 1799 to 1817 by Dr. 'Valentine Seaman, a famous surgeon of his day. His course of lectures, supplemented by practical instruc. tion in the wards of The New York Hospital, was probably the first systematic and scientific training offered to nurses anywhere. The present school, however, was not established until 1877. It moved to its magnificent new building, overlooking the East River in 1932. It is part of The New York Hospital Miedical Cen ter which also includes Cornell University Mtedical College. The hospital, with capacity for 1,000 patients, offers unusual facilities for teaching nursing students in its medical, surgical - operating room( pediatrics, obsterical, gyne cological, psychiatric, public health, and out-patient departments. Bill Ward arrives home tonight from Georgia School of Techno logy, Atlanta. 0. B. Powell of Asheville is relieving C. N. Brown, meat man ager at the A&P store for two weeks’ vacation. Boy Scouts Meet On Wednesday The Tryon Boy Scouts will meet on Wednesday afternoon at the school a’t 4:30 for a baseball game. At 6 o’clock they will have a cook-out supper and at 7 o’clock will hold a business session. Scout master W. A. Schilletter is eager to have all Scouts present.
