Est. 1-31-28 Directors of Game League Are Elected A meeting of the Polk County -Pish and Game League was held \ Columbus on Friday afternoon, *7une 10th. The following directors were elected: C. J. Lynch, Tryon; Slim Laugh, ter, Cooper’s Gap; Jim Durham, Columbus; John Moore, Columbus; Ush Steadman, Green’s Creek; Sid Feagan, Green’s Creek; W. ’H. McDonald, White Oak. President Ballenger made the following committee appointments: Hunting: Julian Hester, Chair man; Walter C. Hill, W. H. Mfc- Donald, Slim Laughter, Jim Dur. ham, Lish Steadman. Fishing: John Moore, Chairman; Dr. John Z. Preston, R. S. Walcott, Ralph Williams, H. D. Arledge, Sid Feagan. It is the aim of the League to promote conservation and propa gation of game birds and fish in 3jlk county. To secure the co leration of land owners in see. g that game laws and seasons are observed and to use to the fullest extent all State and Na tional aid granted to those who Tear game birds and in the stock ing of streams. It is expected that a member, •ship campaign will soon be under way to secure members, and it is their hope that in securing a large number of Polk County residents to take membership a great deal can be done to promote sportsman like hunting and fishing. Such a movement can do much v to increase the interest in these two sports as well as make Polk County a better place in which to hunt and fish. TRYON, N C., MONDAY, JUNE 13, 1938 Arrest Os One Leads to Near Riot One man listed as Ray Walker of Mill Spring, was arrested and placed under bond and charged with public drunkenness, driving drunk and resisting an officer as the result of a near riot in the Mall Spring section of the county Saturday. According to Sheriff Hines a call came to his office in the early part of the evening and upon investigation, Walker was placed under arrest. Three other men who were present were re ported to have interferred, one of the trio brandishing a knife and causing the sheriff to draw his gun for the first time since being in office. Walker was brought to the county jail. Chief Hague Kiser was called and he sent Amos Foster of the Tryon Police force with the sheriff’s deputies to the scene. When they arrived the other three members of the disturbing party had disappeared. Warrants for their arrest have been issued. "June 10th, 1938.
