Est. 1-31-28 "‘CURB” REPORTER When the first Fourth of July ■was celebrated Tryon was a wild erness. According to an old deed of P. G. Morris showing abstract of title the land around Oak Hall and Tryon in general was sold by the State of North Carolina by Patent No. 1036 to Tench Coxe, assignee of James Greenlee, Lew is Beard and William Erwin. This was on Nov. 26, 1796. Tryon area became known as the Tan yard tract. In 1801 Coxe sold to Wm. Tilgham, Abraham Kunt zing, Stephen Duponceau. In 1819 they sold it to Agustus Sackett, Trustee and he sold to Thos L. Ogden in 1821. All this was Rutherford County until past 1850. Dr. Columbus Mills bought the Morris property on July 1, 1870 form Redmond, Bronson and Ran dall and he sold it to Frank Wil cox’s father, Lemuel N. Wilcox in 1872. It is interesting to trace the changes of ownership of pro perty from the beginning of our country to the present. Bowen, manager of the Tryon Brach of the Duke Power Co. won the first prize of S3O in Division Three of the recent Elec tric Range and Water Heater sales campaign conducted by the power company. Dance Tonight The regular Friday evening dance at Sunnydale Cabin will be held tonight with Mir. and Mrs. Ernest Kerhulas as hosts. The admission is 50c for stags or Coup les. No Bulletin July 4th. The Tryon Daily Bulletin will observe the Fourth of July holiday on Monday by closing for the day. Any event of sales for next week should be advertised in Saturday morning’s Bulletin. Copy should be in the office not later than 10 a. m. Gentry At Kiwanis Judge J. J. Gentry of Bird Mountain will be the guest speaker on Tuesday at 1 p. m. at Hotel Tryon when the Kiwanis club holds its regular meeting. K. A. Bowen will be in charge of the program. Commissioners Meet Tuesday Observing the Fourth of July the Polk County Board of Com missioners will not meet on Mon day this time, but will hold their business session the following day on Tuesday, July sth at Colum bus in the Courthouse.
