To Correct Absentee Evils
Public spirited citizens all
over the state and the State
Board of Elections are prepar
ing a campaign to correct some
of the absentee vote evils.
Many of these citizens want
to eliminate the absentee bal
lot entirely. We hope this
will be accomplished. There is
really no place for the absen
tee ballot. In the meantime
the voters of Polk County can
keep talking up a re-registra
tion of all voters in order to
eliminate the names of people
who have died or moved away.
A better way, and one more
economical, would be for the
election board to publish in
the newspaper the official list
of all voters. Then upon
proper notification remove the
names of those illegally listed,
and publish the names of those
removed and give the reason
for it. The only people who
should object to this method
would be the ones whose hames
do not belong on it, or politi
cians who want to use the
names for illegal voting. All
legitimate voters should be
proud, of any list of names
that designates them as citi
zens- of Polk County, citizens
who are willing to assume
their share of responsibility
in better government.
