Est. 1-31-28 Stewart Williams Stewart Williams, 53, well known fanner of Columbus town ship and a member of a prominent * Polk county family, died this at 11 o’clock after a ling “Jring illness. Funeral plans have not been completed but services will be held some time Tuesday afternoon. The deceased was care taker for the Skyuka hotel prop erty and was a watchman at the Forest Fire Tower on Tryon Mountain. He is survived by his widow and eleven children; also three brothers and one sister. His children are Mrs. Herbert Thomp son of Columbus; Ruth, Ina, Gladys, Boyce, Howard, Irene, George, Betty Jean, Peggy Joyce and Lorene. His sister, Mirs. John Foster; brothers, John, Will and Burton. Tryon Lambasts, Biltmore Team 11 to 2 Tryon’s Industrial League Base , aVll team used the “old pole” to Biltmore into a 11 to 2 victory at Harmon Field Satur day. Jim Fisher led the onslaught with a homer, two doubles and a single to carry swating honors. Hardin, Capps and Afledge form ed the trio as batteries for Tryon. Next Saturday Tryon will play the strong Enka team at Harmon Field at 3:30 p. m. Kiwanis Picnic ' Tryon Kiwanians and their fam ilies will hold a picnic supper on Tuesday evening at Lake Lanier Inn dock. J. E. Brownlee, L, A. Avant and Hoyt O. Prince are in charge of the program. TRYON. N.C., MONDAY AUGUST 15, 1938 “CURB’’ REPORTER It is nice to be back in Tryon. The view of the mountains as you approach Tryon is an inspiring sight. We had a good time and enjoyed every day at the ocean, but we don’t think there is any place as good as this section. A week away makes you appreciate it more . . . The first thing notic. ed in Tryon was the big pile of brick, and lumber in front of the old theatre building and this morning men were at work with hammer and saw .... The new Crandall apartments are nearing completion on Melrose Avenue looking at the building from the outside . . Found on my desk an interesting 18th anniversary edition of the Farmers Federation News of which Blackburn W. 'ohnson is editor and Dr. James (L K. McClure is president .... . Tut week we left for the coast rural mail box week” aiui % lot of farmers had painted their V>xes attractively and letter ed th;_ names on them .. . One of the nicest treats we had while there was a box of Tryon grapes from Dr. Fuldner. They came packed in good shape. Not a one . was even bruised. August is a good month to send your friends some Tryon Grapes. Dr. Lea sent us some grapes from Tau Rock Vineyards just before we left ....
