Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N. C., MONDAY, AUG. 22, 1938 McCown Elected Bar President Attorney M. R, McCown of Try- Ji was elected president of the orth Carolina 18th District Bar Association at the annual meeting on Saturday at Sunnydale in Try on. Other officers elected were Oscar J. Mooneyham, vice-presi dent, of Forest City; and Ralph Hamsey, secretary - treasurer of Brevard. The meeting next year will be held at Rutherfordton. Supreme Court Judge Michael Schenck said the meeting was one of the best district meetings he had ever attended. Over fifty lawyers from the district and a number of prominent citizens of the community were present. The address of welcome was given by Attorney MfcCown and the response w.is made by Secretary Ramsey of Brevard. Past President Rob ert Proctor of Marion gave his address on the work of the asso ciation. Attorney Rover Fouts of Continued on Page Three Tryon Lost To Enka Saturday Up until the ninth inning Tryon had Enka beat 3-2 in an impor tant game of the Industrial League on Saturday at Harmon Field. The two teams were tied for first place, but in the ninth inning Enka put the pressure on for a 4-inning rally to win the game and break the tie for the league leadership. The score by innings is as fol lows: Enka 000 020 004—6 10 2 Tryon —2OO 000 100—3 9 3 Tuxedo Woman Is Drowned In Lake Summitt Hendersonville, Aug. 20.—Miss Lois Earle Freeman, 24, of Tux edo, Henderson county, was drown ed about 4 o’clock this afternoon in Lake Summitt, near here. One report received here was that Miss Freeman was trying to swim across the lake when she drowned. Another was that she was floating on the surface of the lake and suddenly disappeared from sight. Rescuers and those who made re suscitation efforts were Bob and Ken Herbert, counselors at Camp Mbndamin for boys on Lake Sum mitt, and Bill Bangs, of Hender sonville. The body was brought to Pat ton Memorial hospital here and an inhaler was brought here by the Enka police department. Accord ing to hospital reports, no signs of life were noted after the body was brought to the hospital about 5 o’clock. Bruce A. Cox, Henderson coun ty coroner, said tonight that no inquest was deemed necessary.— Asheville Citizen. CHEYNEY TO PLAY Luke Cheyney and his orchestra who have been featured during the summer season at Sunnydale at Tryon, N. C., will be at the resort again next Friday night, it has been announced by the manage ment. An added attraction will be the singing of George Landrum, tenor, of this city.—Spartanburg Herald.
