Flynn, Aged Resident Passes \ James C. Flynn, 87, one of Polk Jbounty’s oldest residents died at 11 p. m., Friday night at the home of his son, William Flynn of Liand rum route 1. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the Green Creek Baptist church with the Rev. E. E. Bomar officiating. Interment will be in the churcl' cemetery. The deceased is survived by the following children: William, Rob ert, Walker and J. C., all o? Landrum route 1; Tom J., of Land rum route 3; and one sister* Mrs. Mary Shehan, of Rutherfordton. Mr. Flynn was reared and spent most of his life in the neigh borhood in which he died, and un til his retirement a few years opto, he was one of the county’s best known farmers. He had been in declining health for some time and his death was not unexpected. The pallbearers have been an nounced as follows: Donell, Ralph, Leo, Glynn, Joe and William Flynn, grandsons of the deceased. At The Churches EPISCOPAL: Church of the Holy Cross. Continued on back vaae Chamber Commerce Elects Officers The Tryon Chamber of Com merce met Friday night at 8 o’clock at MPissildine’s Hall and elected the following directors: Dr. E. E. Missildine, George H. Holmes, E. Perry Mianville, K. A. Bowen, Seth M. Vining. The di rectors then elected the following officers: E. Perry Mianville, presi dent; K. A. Bowen, vice-president. Mrs. E. T. Slagle was appointed secretary-treasurer. Following the open meeting of the organization the directors went into executive session and discussed plans for the coming season’s work and ap pointed committees on finapce, pub licity and by-laws. In her report to the organization Mrs. Slagle reported that hundreds of inquir ies had been received asking for information about Tryon and vicinity. The demand had been so great that the supply of booklets and other literature of Tryon was about exhausted. As soon as plans are ready for submission to the organization President Mianville will call a meeting. (EDITORIAL). Mir. Manville, the new president, is vice president of the Tryon Rotary club and since coming to Tryon from Charlotte about four years ago, he has given active service to the Boy Scouts, hospital, church and other organizations. As chairman of the Rotary-Kiwanis joint com mittee to secure a private school or junior college for Tryon the committee has shown unusual speed end resourcefulness in getting things done.
