Tryon Beta Club
Selects Officers
The Tryon chapter of the Na
tional Honorary Beta club held
its first meeting of the fall on
Thursday afternoon. This club is
composed of those Juniors and
Seniors who have an average of
85 or over. The officers are as
follows:
President: Mary Palmer.
Vice-President: Peggy Lincoln.
Secretary: Ruby Alice Clark.
Treasurer: Estelle Brownlee.
Mass Anne Sevier sponsors the
club. Six of the members gradu
ated last year and the following
have been invited to join this
year: Edna Underwood, David
Cromer, Thomas Raines, Francis
Chapman, Theodore Burrell.
Os those Beta club members who
graduated last year the following
are going away to college: Bell
Jackson, Averett college; Ruth Mc-
Farland, Queens-Chicora; Carolyn
Slagle, Limestone; Nellie Rushing,
Limestone; Edward Manville, Clem
son.
Two honors were won last year
by two members of the club. Mary
Palmer and Bell Jackson. Miss
Palmer received a prize of five
dollars for writing a paper on the
Beta club convention at Raleigh.
Miss Jackson won a bronze medal
for the highest grade in the Elev
enth district on the Beta club ex_
amination given by the Seniors
every year.
