Est. 1-31-28 John Fuldner Director Os Little Theatre John Fuldner who left Tryon last j Jffeek in answer to a telegram to \ take a part in the federal theatre j project at Raleigh was surprised j when he landed in Raleigh to see his picture on the front page of the Raleigh Times with the an nouncement of his appointment as the director of the $98,000 Raleigh Little Theatre which had just been approved by the WPA. M-r. Fuld ner succeeds Wilbur Dorsett who goes to the Greensboro little Theatre. The new director got his start in theatre work under his mother, Mrs. Louis Fuldner, prom inent on the stage in Europe and America. John has taken the lead in many dramatic performances in Tryon and was a director of a number of productions of the Drama Fortnightly for several seasons here. Jt-andrum Given $66,000.00 v street Project By WPA A $66,372 WPA project for im proving streets in Landrum has been approved by Washington officials, according to information received yesterday at the office of Senator James F. Byrnes in Spartanburg. Landrum town officials stated that the money is to be used to hard surface four streets in the town and to do general improve ment work on other streets. Sidewalks will be repaired, gut ters cleaned and several streets worked over, in addition to the hard surfacing of the four streets, according to the officials.—Spar tanburg Herald. TRYON, N. C., MONDAY, SEPT. 19, 1938 Columbus Waterworks Put In Receivership A federal court order filed here has placed the waterworks of the town of Columbus, in Polk county, in receivership. Judge E. Yates Webb, of United States federal district court, signed the order and appointed William Pebodie as re ceiver with the power to collect all water rents. The order cit d that the town had not made pay ment on a judgment awarded in court to J. L. Barringer.—Ashe ville Citizen. Golf Results The results of the Blind Bogey handicap tournament at the Tryon Country club during the weekend were as foUows: First place, a tie between B. B. Bishop, Jr., and Amos Foster, with a net score of 73; second place, B. B. Bishop, Sr., with a net score of 82; third place, a tie between Bert Arledge and Miarsha’l Ballew with a net score of 77. The low gross score for the weekend was made by Earl Rion who shot a 77 as usual. Garden Club Meets At Pearson’s Falls The Tryon Garden club will hold its first meeting of the fall season o n Wednesday, September 21st, at 3:30 p. m., at Pearson’s Falls shelter. Miss Pauline Witherspoon will be the hostess. The program is a surprise competition. Members are requested to bring a camp chair. Per Copy lc
