Dear Sir: I am inclosing herewith notice of Presidential approval of a sum of $2,638 for a WPA project to index, etc., the books of the Clerk of the Court of Polk County, and also the allocation of funds for preparing and serving school lunches, in the amount of $6,391.00. I felt this might be of interest to you in connection with the next issue of your paper. C., THURSDAY, SEPT. 29, 1938 Storm at Charleston Radio broadcasts at noon today announce that a severe tornado hit Charleston, S. C., early this morn ing, killing 25 people and injur ing approximately 340. 36 city blocks were damaged including the Old Slave Market and the City Hall. Mayor Maybank was on a visit to Flat Rock, N. C., at the time of the storm, but left immediately for home upon receipt of the news Governor Johnston was visiting in Oklahoma. Lieut.-Gov. Harley hurried to the scene of the catastrophe. Upon orders of President Roosevelt, members of the Army and Navy, Miarines ar' squads of CCC enrolees were rush ed to the scene to render all pos sible aid to residents of the city affected by the storm. According to reports, the Red Cross js al ready on the scene and the injured and homeless are rapidly receiv ing assistance. v Dance FrkMy Ernest/Kerhulas, manager of Sunnydpfe announces that a Rock ola music dance will be held as usu*f at Sunnydale on Friday evening. Rotary Friday County Auditor William Eger ton will be the guest speaker at the Tryon Rotary club on Friday at 1 p. m., at Sunnydale Log Cabin.
