C., TUESDAY, OCT. 4, 1938 “CURB” REPORTER , Among the most interesting sites on Trade street the other day was the Reech-Nut circus consisting of automatic toy animals, actors and actresses. The circus was loaded on a big truck and had the typical circus music, parade, etc Two highway patrolmen and three men in plainclothes were parked in front of Missildine’s a long time this morning. One of the plain cloth men carried a pistol under his coat; another went in the post office and came out with Ujncle Bill’s Tryon Daily Bulletin; the stout, chunky man waved at Geo. Cathey as he passed in his station wagon. Then the men got togeth er in a huddle over a telegram *s€or about a minute, then got in mheir cars and left. Never did find whv they were here .... Watch for fur- Continued on Back Page Saluda Youth Awarded Two-Year Scholarship Saluda, Oct. 3.—Phillip Heath erly, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Heatherly, of Saluda, was recently awarded a two-year scholarship at Colorado college. The award was made not only for merit in schol arship but for ability in leader ship, the latter playing a large role in the choice. The college is at Fort Collins, Colo. Young Heatherly is a graduate of the Saluda high school, class of 1935. —Asheville Citizen. v.■- - ■ ■ Fire Prevention Week, October 9-15 E. Perry Manville, local repre sentative of the Aetna Casualty and Surety Co., of Hartford, Conn., offers the following precautions as part of the observance of National Fire Prevention Week, October 9th to 15th: Plan what you intend to do if fire comes, then do it calmly and sensibly. Make up your mind beforehand that you are not going to become excited. Learn the correct operation of hand fire extinguishers. When using a hand extinguisher the fire should be attacked at its base. If the clothing catches fire, tear off burning portions if possible. Attempt to smother the flames by wrapping victim in a woolen cloth. Do not allow the victim to run or move.
