Burning Brush Permit
Law Is Given
R. B. Williams, County Forest
Warden, states that the follow
* ing is given as to the permit law
governing the burning of brush:
“Section 1. That it shall be
unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to start or cause to be
started any fire or ignite any ma
terial in an v of the areas of wood
lands under the protection of the
State Forest Service or within
five hundred feet of any such pro
tected area, between the first day
of April and the fifteenth day of
June, inclusive, or between the
fifteenth day of October and the
first da v of December, inclusive, in
any year, without first obtaining
rr om the State Forester or one of
"his duly authorized agents a permit
to set out fire or ignite any ma
terial in such above mentioned
protected areas; that no charge
shall be made for the granting of
permits.
“Section 2. That this Act shall
not apply to any fire started or
caused to be started within five
"hundred feet of a dwelling house.
“Section 3. That anv person, firm
or corporation violating this Act
shall be guilty of a misdqmeano*’
and shall be fined or imprisoned
in the discretion of the court.
“Section 4. That all laws and
clauses of laws in conflict with the
provisions of this Act are hereby
Tepealed.
Section 5. That this Act shall
he in full for<*e and effect from and
after its ratification. (Chapter 207,
Public Laws of N. C.—1937.)”

At the regular meeting of the
Tryon Kiwanis club today noon at
Hotel Tryon, Vice-president Hoyt
0. Prince, of Landrum was elected
president for 1939; County Agent
J. A. Wilson of Columbus was
elected vice-president; C. J. Ibnch,
treasurer. The secretary will be
elected by the board of directors
who were named as follows: J. E.
Brownlee, C. M. Eargle, J. N. Jack
son, C. P. Rogers, K. A. Bowen,
Dr. C. Arthur Lincoln, Dr. J. E.
Derby. Mr. Prince will succeed
President R. H. Brady on Janu
ary 1, 1939. The program today
was in charge of C. J. Ltpich. and
the guest speaker was Dr. B. B.
Bishop, Jr., of the Tryon Fire de
partment, who gave an interesting
talk on fire prevention, the foolish
things people do, valuable tips on
making property safer and the
great saving to Tryon as the re
sult of having a well-equipped fire
department operated by loyal, effi
cient members. The talk was very
entertaining as well as helpful.
Among the guests present were
Fire Ch ; ef Jim Fisher; former,-
Mayor W. 9. Green; President Ju
lian B. Hester of the Rotary club
and J. T. Arledge. On next Tues
day the Hendersonville club will
come to Tryon in a body and put
on the program.
Raleigh, Oct. 11.—Probably $14,-
000,000 have been distributed in
North Carolina in benefits and
services under the Federal Social
Security Act and supplemental
State laws since the program was
"tarted.
