of her class in the Tryon high

ber 17th, at 4:30 o’clock at the

Dr. E. Gibson Davis, pastor of
the First Baptist church of Spar
tanburg and former pastor of the
First Baptist church of Asheville,
will be the speaker. Dr. Davis will
have for his subject: “Teaching
Religion in the School.”
The hostesses for the afternoon
are Mrs. B. O. Byers, Mrs. Frank
McFarland, Mrs. C. A. Martin and
Mrs. Steth M. Vliriing.

Distress Relief
The Red Cross appeal for relief
funds to assist in alleviating the
widespread distress caused by de
vastating hurricane damage in New
England, Long Island and Char
leston, S. C„ has met with a re
sponse in Polk county amounting
to S6B to date. All contributions
should be made through J. B. Hes
ter, treasurer of the Polk County
Chapter of the American Red
Cross.
