C., FRIDAY, OCT- Democratic Rally Draws Big Crowd A. J. Maxwell V and Solicitor C. 0. Rid ings Speak For Democrats. President J. T. Ariedge of the Young Democrats club of Polk County called to order a big rally meeting at the Court House in Co lumbus on Wednesday night and introduced all the Democratic can didates present including C. P. Rogers for legislature; Robert Mc- Far'and for clerk of court; Gran ville Thompson for countv commis sioner; and W. D. Hines for sheriff. Sitting on the speaker’s platform was Charles Flack of For est City, chairman of the Ruther ford Countv Democratic Executive committee and he sooke of the progress of the Young Democrats in his countv. Solicitor Clarence i O. R'dings, of Forest City, a native ' of Polk county, spoke of the great progress made by the Democratic part v in this section since he was a boy. He said that when he look ed round for a high school to at tend he had to ride in a wagon over bad roads to Campobello, S. C., and catch a train for Hender sonville. Now, there are good roads and good high schools within reach of every student in every section of the countv; and during the de pression it was the Democratic partv that brought relief to the starving and naked. Solicitor Ridings was very entertaining with his humor and kept the crowd in laughter. He was followed by Continued on Page Two 1 Rogers Writes Open | Letter to Polk Voters i An Open Letter to The Citizens I of Polk County: i As we approach the General j Election which is to be held on I Tuesday, November Bth, I have j been requested by numerous citi j zens of the County to specify in i detail just what Legislation I will ! favor in the next session of the i General Assembly, if I am elected to represent the people of Polk County. This I am very glad to do, as the issues are the same as those which were under discussion during the recent Primary, and it was as a result of my stand on the issues referred to, that I re ceived the nomination of the Democratic Party in that Primary. Therefore, it is right and proper that I should again at this t me, j state for the information of all the j voters of the Countv, just what j I propose to do in the matter of i Legislation, if I am elected as their j Representative in November. { I favor the repeal of the Absen- I tee Ballot in all elections, not only because this is desired by a large majority of our people, but also because it has been proven that it is productive of unfair practices in our Elections, and is destructive of harmon v in the ranks of the Democratic Party itself. A rising tide of disapproval of the use and abuse of the Absentee Ballot is sweeping the entire State and even its friends and apologists admit that its days are numbered.
