Reception For
New Rector
A reception for the Rev. Charles
L. McGavern, new rector of the
Church of the Holy Cross, was
held on Friday evening at the
Parish House which was attrac
tively decorated with beautiful
yellow, brown and red leaves and
fall flowers. Those in the receiv
ing line were Mr. and Mrs. F. P.
Bacon, the Rev. Charles L. Mlc-
Gavern, Mrs. George H. Holmes,
MV. Douglas S. Blois. At the long
candle lit table laden with delicious
sandwiches and cakes, tea and
coffee were poured by Mjrs. James
C. Kimberly, Mrs. F. W. Crandall
and Mrs. H. H. Parmelee. A large
number of guests from the various
churches of the community wel
comed the new minister who came
here last month from Buffalo,
New York.

The other day three men from
Greenville Lions club came in to
the Ballenger Co., and asked the
Curb Reporter if he knew how they
could get in touch with Mrs.
Coolidge and invite her to ©Yeejf
ville Friday night to a benefit per
formance for underprivileged chil
dren. The men were told that it
is a custom in Tryon to help all
the celebrities who come here to
live just as privately as they de
sire and have opportunity to rest,
nlay or work without interference
from newspaper men, photogra
phers, autograph seekers, gazing
spectators and personal invitations
to public affairs. The men were

Helms at Rotary
Town Manager C. H. Helms gave
an interesting talk on the finances
and management of the Town of
Tryon, at the Friday mieting of
the Rotary club at Sunnydale. J.
T. Arledge had charge of the pro
gram.
