Est. 1-31-28 CURB REPORTER I Ferdinand has a leather collar " around his neck and it is difficult to get at fleas finding shelter un der his throat, but otherwise he seems to enjoy it immensely. He was first brought to M’issildine's Pharmacy to be chloroformed. He was in the way; not wanted; ar.d his owner couldn’t bear the thought of him suffering the hardships of becoming a stray. But Ferdinand has personality and good looks and since he didn’t know that he was to be put away he looked up at his executioner with trusting eyes, then rubbed his head against the side of his leg and tried to wrap his tail around as he went by. That cat has been there ever since .... This is Charles Nes smith’s list week as owner of Tryon’s Theatre. Dear Sir: Os course on Thanksgiving Day 1 was determined to see the Macy parade which Tony Sarg has for years designed and perfected. I just forgot about turkey and stuffing and slid over to Broadway. Found a hole in the wall where a clever man was putting his store to rights and I peered in and . saw much needed stockings. Seeing Continued on Page Three Rev. C. R. White Is Returned Here It is unusual for a Methodist minister to be returned to his post after the fourth year, but the Rev. C. R. White, colored, pastor of the St. Luke’s C. M. E. church has just been returned to his church here by the Durham con ference for the sixth year. Pastor White is a native of Northport, Ala., and the son of a prominent Negro minister; he was educated at Booker T. Washington’s Tus kegee Institute and received his theological training at Paine col lege in Augusta, Ga. His first and only pastorate has been the Tryon church which has grown steadily in membership and service urder his leadership. St. Ltuke’s church reported to the conference that $2,750 was raised last year to re pair the church building. Th»s headed tRe lisfc-of achievements for the church under White’s leader ship and coupled with the wish of local members was a big factor in returning him to Tryon.
