Est. 1-31-28 TRYON, N C., FRIDAY, DEC. 30, 1938 The Story of Music To Be Heard Here Miss Frances De Villa Ball, k whose musical program was so " enthusiastically received by the members of the Lanier club, has been urged to enlarge upon her theme—The Story of Music—with illustrations on the piano, in a series of six evening recitals. These interesting events will begin at the Lanier library on Tuesday evening, January 10th, and continue on the following Tuesdays up to February 14th. Miss Ball, a pupil of Leschetizky, is a well-known pianist in New York State, and has spent several winters giving recitals and talks on musical appreciation in Flor ence, Italy. She not only has the three requisites for artistic per formance on the piano, tone, touch and temperament, but in her talks, she shows an unusual ability for imparting her understanding of t music to the lay mind, f The highest praise of her first program in Tryon was given by one of the Lanier club members who said, “I was totally uncon scious of the passage of time, I was so fascinated by what I was hearing.” Tryon is to be congratulated on having this opportunity to lis ten and learn and enjoy great music beautifully interpreted and rendered. The program as outlined by Miss Ball is as follows: 1. A survey of charges in Gre gorian music of the Early Church. . 2. Bach and his contemporar ies. Fugree form. 3. Saluda Residence ! Damaged By Fire On Wednesday afternoon about 4 o’clock a small blaze Was dis covered at Happy Hut, the summer home of Rev. W. S. Sitoney, of Morganton. The fire originated in a room in which a small - heater had been lighted and left apparently safe as the walls of the room were sup posed to be fire-proof. The blaze arose to the attic through the wall but was soon extinguished with out any great damage. The family had just come from Morganton to spend the remain der of the holidays in Saluda. JOHN ARTZ HERE John W. Artz, former Polk County Agent, and president of the Tryon Kiwanis club, was a visitor to friends in all sections of the county today. Mr. Artz is State County Agent-at-large and at present is located at Gatesville near the Virginia line.
