John- of South Carolina extended ■Executive clemency to 29 prisoners the state yesterday (Tuesday) on his last day in office. Among those who received par dons, paroles or commutations were Dr. R. H. Wilds of Lkmd rum. Dr. Wilds was granted a full pardon after serving half of an 18 months sentence for embezzel ment at Spartanburg in April 1938. Charges resulting in his conviction grew out of an alleged shortage in funds of the town of Landrum while Dr. Wilds served the town as clerk. Large Distilleries Are Destroyed Constables C. R. Bradley and H. L. Wilson destroyed a large distilling plant in the Pea Ridge and one in the Cooper’s township, near Lake Adger. A large quantity of beer and some whiskey was destroyed by the officers at each place. It was stated that one of the ’stills was just ready to be fired up when the officers arrived. Arrests are expected of the operators of one of the ’stills.
