He is survived by a brother, :
Henry Howland Crapo, of New
Bedford, Mass.; a son, William |
Wallace Crapo, of Detroit, Mich.; |
and two daughters, Mrs. John Mor- j
gan Bullard, of South Dartmouth, j
Mass., and Mary Morley Crapo, j
of Detroit.

Crapo of Massachusetts and grand- I
son of .Henry Howland Crapo, 1
prominent lumberman and gover- ‘
nor of Michigan in 1865. The ‘
Crapo family were prominent in I
the development of Michigan. A I
cousin, William Crapo Durant, I
was the founder of the General j
Corporation.
Mr. Crapo had been coming to !
for the past 25 years. He j
and his wife, the late Emma Mor- !
ley Crapo who died November 28, j
1937, loved Tryon deeply and con- j
tributed generously to its many j
civic causes. A few years ago j
they built a home here on Melrose j
Circle and only recently had com- j
pleted a guest house.
Stanford Tappan Crapo spent j
his youth in New Bedford, where i
he attended the Friends Academy, j
Later he went to Yale University, j
where he was in the class of 'B6. j
At Yale, h§ was chairman of the j
Yale News, and a member of the !
DKE fraternity, and the senior
society “Skull and Bones.”
After college, he came to Michi

The annual meeting of the Rid
ing & Hunt club was held at Sunny
dale Thursday evening. Officers
elected for the coming year are
President, Carter Brown; vice
president, C. J. Lynch; secretary,
M. B. Flynn. New directors, Mrs.
Walter Hill and Sam Bingham, Jr.
Dates were set for the spring ac
tivities as follows:

County Teachers
To Meet Saturday
The Polk County Teachers As
soc:' tion will meet on Saturday
morning at 10 o’clock at the Green
Creek school. The chief speaker
will be R. P. Burgess, president
of the Textile Institute of Spar
tanburg.
Bowling Results
The Champion Bowlers trimmed
a picked bunch of All-Stars last
night in an alley battle. The
results:
Champions—Nessmith 386; Tay
lor 363; Butler 350; Honeman,
359; Brock 348—total 1,806.
All Stars—Burnette, 338; Costa,
312; Owens, 356; Foster, 321; and
Brown, 394—total 1,726.
The Champions are ready and
awaiting the challenge from any
one team.
